THE Chief Operating Officer at the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Foundation, Colin Brew, has been honoured with a special award in recongnition of his business performance in the Cheshire region.

The award was presented from the High Sheriff of Cheshire’s office in partnership with the University of Chester in recognition of his former role as CEO of West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce .

At an event held at the University to host the High Sheriff of Cheshire Awards for Enterprise, Colin received the Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Economy of Cheshire and the Business Community. The Awards for Enterprise are given in recognition of exceptional business performance in the Cheshire region.

Colin was selected for his award following his 8-year tenure as CEO of the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2018, and it was presented by David Briggs, Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire. The award was made in recognition of the part Colin played in bringing public and private sectors together for the benefit of the regions’ economy.

Cheshire is currently one of the fastest growing regions in the country, according to Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership.

Commenting on his award, Colin said: “I rarely crave recognition, as I know how much of my success is down to the support and hard work of others. So, when it comes my way, I am filled with an immense amount of pride in all those good people who have been part of my journey.”

Peace Foundation CEO, Nick Taylor commented:“This is an amazing award and fitting recognition of what Colin achieved for the economy and business sector in Cheshire. We are very fortunate to have him leading the operations at the Peace Foundation. He has been very humble and modest in this and dedicated his award to all of his team and people who supported him, but this is recognition of Colin and he deserves our congratulations.”

Brilliant Colin – congratulations for this award and the work you do for the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Foundation – why you guys haven’t been given the Freedom of the Borough I don’t know, but I’m working on it and it’s a much harder job than getting the accolade for Sir Roger Hunt back in 2016.

Good to see David Briggs, Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, who has worked so hard for charity causes and who I met on many occasions when I was Mayor of Warrington.

On one occasion I remember meeting (at one of Bill Holdroyd’s, the then flamboyant High Sherrif of Cheshire, and driving force behind the On Side Youth Zones Charity fund raiser) the husband of the current High Sherrif – Jane Redmond – who also has an impressive charity support record.

Bill actually helped save the Warrington Community Transport from oblivion for which I will be eternally grateful because of the need for the vital service that they still provide – he backed our new model when other councillors bailed out to leave me and the Chair to pick up the bill – a stark warning to Trustees – If things go belly up you will be picking up the bill so Charities beware get CIO status now.

I haven’t met the new High Sheriff Jane Redmond but at one of Bill’s Charity fund raisers at his magnificent home.

I remember introducing her husband Phil, a fellow scoucer, to the Mayor of Crewe a cockney.

It was like a scene from Brook side, Hollyoaks or Grange Hill. The Mayoress and I stood back and split our sides laughing as the two of them wound each other up – it was better than one of his scripts – two down to earth blokes. The Mayor of Crewe told us that he had driven himself to the event – and I said “Where is the Bentley I think you’ve missed a trick from a potential sponsor – you could be promoting their product for them.”
