STUDENTS from Warrington’s Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School made quite a splash in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships – even though there was no water!
They were part of Warrington Youth Rowing and Eliza Fox, Jonah Holland and Iffy Marinos came first in their heats.
Overall, Iffy came fourth out of 129 Year 10 girls, Jonah came 17th out of 158 Year 9 boys and Tom Gilmore, coming second in his heat, came 10th out of 172 Year 8 boys.
Previous to this, the team had taken part in the WYR Indoor Youth Rowing event at Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington.
Jonah Holland won his race, as well as the relay race he was part of.
He said: “I rowed as hard as I could. I won the race and earned a gold medal – I was over the moon with happiness.”
Of the relay race, he added: “I was overjoyed with mine and my teams’ achievement and that is how a winner feels. Like they’re on top of the world.”
