UPDATED: WARRINGTON Road was closed in both directions following an accident close to Risley prison near Culcheth.
At around 3.45pm firefighters were called to a report of a one-vehicle collision in Warrington Road, Risley, Warrington.
On arrival the crew found a van on its side. The driver was still inside the vehicle.
Firefighters used a ladder to help them get the driver out of the vehicle.
They then gave him oxygen before handing the casualty over to the care of paramedics.
The man was taken to hospital via an ambulance.
Firefighters made the van safe and were in attendance for around an hour. Police also attended.
The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
