Appeal for information after serious assault in alleyway

POLICE in Warrington are urging members of the public to come forward with information following a serious assault in the town centre.

The incident occurred near an alleyway between the Postern Gate pub and the FC2 nightclub in Barbauld Street between 2.55am and 3.15am on Saturday March 9.

The victim, a 25-year-old man from Warrington, was assaulted by two or three young men and suffered serious facial injuries.

He received treatment for his injuries at hospital and has since been discharged.

The offenders are described as around 18 to 19 years old and approximately 5’ 8” to 6’ tall. They spoke with Liverpudlian or Runcorn accents.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the assault, or anything else that may be relevant to the investigation, to get in touch.

They also want to speak to anyone who believes they may know who the offenders are.

Detective Constable Jill Peggs, from Warrington CID, said: “The victim suffered serious facial injuries that required hospital treatment as a result of the assault.

“I would like to reassure residents that this appears to be an isolated incident and that we are determined to catch the offenders and make them face the consequences of their actions.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who witnessed the incident or thinks they may know who the offenders are to come forward.”
