Man rescued from banks of River Mersey

A man was rescued from the banks of the River Mersey in Warrington by firefighters during the early hours of this morning.

Fire and rescue crews were called to reports of a man in the river behind the retail park in Knutsford Road, Warrington shortly after 5am.

Crews made a search of the area with police and located a man on the riverbank.

He was rescued and handed to paramedics.
