Brexit campaigners plan to deliver petition to town’s MPs

MEMBERS of the Warrington4Brexit group are planning to visit the offices of the town’s two MPs to deliver a petition supporting upholding the referendum result.
They started the petition last week and claim to have collected 322 signature in two sessions of two hours each
A group spokesperson said: “We started the petition last week because so many members of the public visiting our stand wanted to sign their names to register support for upholding the referendum result. In just two sessions of two hours each, we’ve collected 322 signatures.
We have also created on online version, so that Warringtonians who can’t get to our stand in town
can still show their support.”
The group have had a stand at Market Gate on four occasions and say they had a tremendous response to their petition.
In particular they were encouraged by how many Remain voters have signed the petition, stating
that they wanted to back it for the sake of democracy.
The spokesperson said: “Several of the people visiting our stand have said that they voted Remain but would now vote Leave because they feel democracy must be respected and they are disgusted by the arrogant attitude of the EU towards the UK. We have not met a single person who has gone the other way (i.e. swapping from Leave to Remain).
“Similarly, no member of the public has approached us expressing support for a second
referendum.”
The group now intends to visit the constituency offices of Warrington North MP Helen Jones and Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid, to present the petition on Friday February 22.
The Warrington4Brexit spokesperson added: “We’re seeking an urgent meeting with both MPs before the Meaningful Vote in Parliament on
February 27 to press them to honour the manifesto promises, which they stood for election on,
which were to respect the referendum result and bring an end to freedom of movement.
“A total of 62,487 Warrington constituents voted to leave in the referendum on a whopping 73 per cent turnout.
“That’s a massive mandate for Brexit from the people of Warrington which our MPs must not ignore.”
The group is again staging a rally at Market Gate tomorrow (Saturday) from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and they invite people wishing to sign their petition to visit their stands at either Market Gate or at the Wetherspoons’ pub The Looking Glass. Alternatively, Warrington residents may
