100 jobs to go as council increases council tax by 2.98 per cent

WARRINGTON Borough Council plans to increase Council Tax by 2.98 per cent.
This would make the council tax on the average Band D house £1436.15, according to a report to go to the council’s executive board next week.
But it is anticipated that the police and fire and rescue service will increase their precepts by £1.99 each, which means the total council tax on a Band D house in the borough will rise to £1,693.03.
Properties in the parished areas of the borough will have additional precepts ranginf rom £10.48 in Woolston to £106.12 in Birchwood.
The council will be asked to approve a budget of £132,988m – and the authority will still be forced to axe about 100 jobs to balance the books.
Over the next three years, the council expect to increase its precept by 1.98 per cent each year.
