Villagers stage peaceful protest over proposed Raven Inn demolition

VILLAGERS came out in force to show their outrage at controversial plans to demolish the historic local landmark Raven Inn at Glazebury, Warrington.

An estimated 190 people took part in a peaceful demonstration out of respect to the family still residing at the pub.

Speaking on behalf of the opposition group “Help save the Raven Inn” Fraser Hampson said: “Firstly we would like to thank everyone who came along and showed their support today, they are all a credit to our wonderful village and community. The Raven has been a community asset longer than America has had a Government, how crazy is that?

“The Raven is a place where its locals would go to socialise with friends or family over a drink or a meal, a place where new friendships are made, it’s the hustle and bustle of our village. The Raven should be protected not destroyed.”

“In the right hands I’m positive it will be bustling again, you only have to look at the hundreds of people who turned out today on a freezing cold Sunday afternoon to realise how important it is to the community”

“We’ve already had a new housing estate in the last 5 years, with another one due to complete this summer only 300 yards away from the Raven. We don’t need more houses at the cost of losing our heritage, the oldest and most beautiful community asset we have as a village”

“We need everyone to rally round and send their objections to Warrington Borough Council at the proposed plans to demolish the Raven and together we can save our beloved building.”

The group are urging anyone concerned about the plans to object officially. The planning application reference number is 2019/34186. This number must be included in your objection.

Your objection must also include your name, address, and postcode.
