Lorry jackknifed on M56 as driver took evasive action

UPDATED: A HGV lorry “jackknifed” into the central reservation of the M56 near the Lymm interchange earlier today causing lengthy delays in both directions.

Two lanes of the eastbound carriageway were closed and the third lane of the M56 west was also closed while recovery operations took place after the driver swerved to avoid a collision.

Liquid also spilled onto the carriageway requiring a clean up operation.

There were no reported injuries from the incident which took place at around 12.30pm.

The motorway fully reopened at around 3.15pm.

Police said the lorry driver had to take evasive action to avoid colliding with another vehicle.
