LYMM community champion Alan Williams is one of four Warrington residents to be recognised in the New Year honours.

Commenting on his British Empire Medal (BEM) honour, Alan aged 67, who founded Lymm Historic Transport Day and helped co-ordinate the Lymm Hertitage Centre, said: “My first reaction, and I’m sure it’s the same for many award recipients, is to think of all the other people I have met who are more deserving of recognition.

“But of course I accept the honour with gratitude as it gives me the opportunity to dedicate it all the great people that work alongside me, particularly on the Heritage Centre and Historic Transport Day projects. Most of all though I dedicate it to my wife Su who taught me by example the value of trying to make a positive difference and who I strongly suspect may have had something to do with my nomination too!

“We both feel very fortunate to have lived in a place like Lymm for the past 25 years where we see so much good work being done by so many to strengthen that sense of community.”

Meanwhile another Lymm resident, retired Myerscough College principal and chief executive Ann Turner, has received an MBE for services to education and training.

Others honoured with a BEM were Karin Snape, from Warrington, for services, to Scouting and High Legh resident Christine Williams, for services to the Save the Children charity for sixty years.

Also honoured was Christine Gaskell, the chairman of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership, who has received a CBE for services to the community in Cheshire.
