A PLAQUE has been unveiled at Warrington’s Radley Common Community Centre recognising the hard work of dedicated volunteers.
Cllr Tony Higgins, the borough council’s lead member for leisure and community, unveiled the plaque to recognise the outstanding work carried out by volunteers at Radley Common Luncheon Club.
The club’s founder, Maureen Higham, passed away in October. Maureen, alongside her close friend Elaine Taylor, was responsible for setting up and running the club, which has been opening its doors to around 80 regular members, four days a week, for the last seven years.
The event was attended by members of the council’s neighbourhoods team, Cllr Peter Carey, members of the luncheon club and Maureen’s family and friends.
Cllr Higgins said: “It is a privilege and an honour to unveil this plaque which is dedicated to Maureen, Elaine and all of the volunteers who have helped run the luncheon club for so many years.
“Once in a while you meet a real diamond in the community and Maureen was certainly that. I know that the future of the club and all its members has been left in good hands with Elaine and all of the other amazing volunteers.
“I would like to personally thank them for carrying on the exceptional work that Maureen started to run a club which is a real lifeline for some of our more vulnerable residents.”
