While we tend to think that the interview is the toughest part, really, the hard part is going in on your first day. However, as long as you are prepared then you have nothing to worry about when it comes to starting your new role. Plan Your Outfit
When you look good, this also normally means that you feel good too, and you will want to make sure that you give a good impression when starting your new job. It is always better to appear too smart, rather than too casual and you need to try and keep up this effort in the first few weeks or months that you are in your new job, even if the people around you do not, as you will want to keep up the good impression that you are trying to make. No one wants to walk into their office on the first day to find that they are extremely underdressed and so make sure that you plan your outfit in advance, so you are not stressing about it on the day.
Plan Your Commute
Ideally, when you are starting a new job, you will want to arrive at least 15 minutes early to give a great first impression. Make sure to plan, and even practice, your commute before hand so you can get a good idea of how long It will take you as we can tend to underestimate especially when it comes to how bad we think the traffic will be! Being early also means you will have the chance to say hi to all your new colleagues.
Get Your Documents Together
When showing up for your first day of work, you will want to look prepared and organised, and you can easily do this by making sure that you have all of the important documents that you need ready and available before starting your new role. Your new job may send you a list of what exactly you need to bring, but if not, it is usually a standard set of documents including some photo I.D such as a passport and your national insurance number. Your national insurance number is extremely important when starting a new job role as it will ensure you are paying the correct amount of tax. Research Your Co-Workers
Before starting your new job, try and do some research not just into the company, but also into the staff working there too. Social media is a great tool to do this and you can see exactly what kind of company culture you are going to be entering into and you can adapt your behaviour to suit.
