Tennis club to appeal against floodlight ruling

STOCKTON Heath Tennis Club is to appeal against the refusal of planning consent for floodlight on five of its seven courts.
The club, in Delphfields Road, Appleton, has been battling for permission for floodlights for 24 years and its most recent application was turned down by Warrington Borough Council last month.
Appleton Parish Council and nearly 50 neighbours had lodged objections.
Officers had recommended the scheme – which also included converting two shale courts to artificial grass – be approved.
They had argued that the lighting scheme had been scaled down since the last unsuccessful application, earlier this year, and as a result would be well below the level that could cause concern.
However, the objectors – including the parish council – argued that that the lighting and noise would still have an impact on nearby homes.
They pointed out that the club has the use of nearby floodlit courts at Bridgewater High School which they have used for many years.
