Keep safe this Halloween

POLICE in Warrington want everyone to feel safe and enjoy Halloween this year.

To reassure the community there will again be an increased officer presence across the county this Hallowe’en period. However, this time we’ll have the Youth Advisory Group alongside us to make sure we get the balance right of providing reassurance and keeping young people safe and on the correct side of the law.

There are also double sided leaflets on our website that residents can put in the windows of their home to let trick or treaters know they are ok to knock or if they prefer to be left in peace.

Superintendent Richard Rees, who is leading on the policing operation said: “We understand the impact Hallowe’en can have on those who dread this time of year and the unwanted attention it brings. It can leave them feeling vulnerable and scared.

“We’ve been making sure that young people in our community are aware that sometimes, however unintentional their actions may be, they may be perceived by those who are vulnerable as concerning, or even upsetting.

“We’ve been spending time educating young people by visiting them in schools and talking to them while out and about in the community so that they can enjoy their hallowe’en safely, and without inadvertently impacting on others. If there is any intentional anti-social behaviour we will take action.”

Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, David Keane said: “Hallowe’en is a time of fun for many Cheshire residents but some communities have been plagued by anti-social behaviour during the Hallowe’en period.

“I’m pleased that police in Cheshire have been working hard to educate young people about how they can enjoy Hallowe’en without their actions impacting their local community and I hope we see the impact of this work over the next week.”

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of crime or suffered from anti-social behaviour over the Hallowe’en period do not hesitate in reporting it to Cheshire police via general enquiries for on the website or by phoning 101. For emergencies always phone 999.
