A NEW type of modern worship service is to be launched by St Elphins – Warrington Parish Church.
The first “Together@4” service will take place on Sunday, November 18 at 4pm in the community centre on St Katherine’s Way.
Follow-up services will be held on Sunday, January 20 and Sunday, February 10 and from March 10 they will become regular fortnightly services.
Lee Marsh, a lay minister at the church, said many outside the Church of England saw it as never changing and inflexible while some inside the church felt change was perhaps taking place too qudickly.
But hopefully all would agree the church should be there for all.
He said: “Having listened to people in our town of Warrington, the young and the not so young who want to ensure that the church connects to them, be that in, modern language, rather than 16th Century Old English, or the types of worship music used.
“So, in response Warrington Parish Church, St Elphin’s, are launching a new modern worship service, because here in the parish of Warrington we are a growing church, built on God’s transforming word, who worship God with passion, intimacy and expectation.
“We are God’s children, empowered by his Spirit, extending his Kingdom together, everywhere in every way. And in addition to our usual Sunday services we are creating a new contemporary service of worship at our community centre on St Katherines Way.”
