Bridge Foot traffic ban could lead to road chaos

A TEMPORARY ban on traffic turning right from Warrington New Bridge is set to come into force on December 3 – and could lead to road chaos lasting up to 12 months.
It will be accompanied by a footpath closure between Knutsford Road and Warrington Bridge.
The prohibitions are necessary because of work on stabilising the existing Mersey river wall and the removal and replacement of Warrington Cenotaph and other public realm works.
The ban will only be in force when warning signs are in place.
An alternative route for traffic using Warrington New Bridge from the Mersey Street end will be via the A49 Wilderspool Causeway southbound to Brian Bevan island and then returning along Wilderspool Causeway northbound to Warrington Bridge.
The work will be carried out inb phases to minimise traffic disruption and access will be under the control of the contractor.
But some disruption is inevitable, particularly for Warrington-bound traffic in Knutsford Road because of the additional traffic crossing from Warrington New Bridge into Wilderspool Causeway.
