Councillors approve Green Belt house extensions

COUNCILLORS at Warrington have given the go ahead for extensions to a house in the Green Belt – despite planning officers recommending they should be refused.
The house, in Old Chester Road, Walton is within the Green Belt village of Higher Walton and the Walton Village Conservation area and officers claimed the extensions to the side and rear would result in a disproportionate increase in the size of the building.
They argued that the extensions would have a harmful impact on the open character of the Green Belt.
But Cllr Judith Wheeler supported the application.
She said an earlier application had been refused on what could only be officers’ “over-zealous” attitude.
The new application had been adjusted and resulted in a more balanced building.
The committee approved the application.
