All-weather sports pitch to be improved

A MAJOR improvement to the artificial grass sports pitch at Appleton’s Broomfields Leisure Centre has been given the go-ahead,
The scheme,drawn up  by leisure providers LiveWire, will involve refurbishment of the pitch, replacement floodlighting, fencing and entrance gates. Officers are recommending the scheme be improved.
One nearby resident expressed concern on the grounds the existing lights cause light pollution and an impact on neighbouring properties, resulting in an impact on the residential amenity of residents..
They claimed there needed to be less light spillage.
But officers said the nearest dwellings are about 63 metres away and separated from the pitch by open space and woodland.
They said there would no harmful impact on the living conditions of residents and the borough’s development management committee approved the proposals.
