THE Inaugural Penketh Scarecrow Fest proved to be a huge success and great fun with over 30 fabulous entries

In it’s first year the Penketh Scarecrow Fest has seen a huge variety of themes and a host of imaginative, funny and wonderfully creative efforts coming together to brighten the streets and put a smile on the faces of passers by.

The free to enter Community event, organised by local resident Kelly Rhodes, brought together the finest scarecrows Penketh had to offer. On Sunday 30th September an excited crowd gathered at Meeting Lane Community Centre for the prize presentation and awards ceremony.

There were prizes for two categories, family entrants and business/Group entries.

Picking up the rosette and prize for best Business/Organisation scarecrow was Holly’s Farm with their amazing Part Bin Special (Chicken Run)
In second was Hatty and Woody (Friends Lane Riding Centre) and third were Moly (The Flower Rooms)

Other Organisations included the Police, Olive Tree Methodist Church, the Scouts and Rainbows.

In the family category Kate and Caden Cleary’s “The Big Bad Wolf” scarecrow blew away the competition to snatch first prize. Close on his heels came the Rath/Chester family’s “BFG” effigy and in third was The Greatest Showman by the Shaftesbury Avenue team.

Kelly Rhodes said ” Judging was so tough with the judges finding it so difficult to agree on a winner. The voting was really close. I would like to thank all the entrants and everyone who helped. Also thanks to all the sponsors who donated prizes and especially Nicola Attwood from Warrington Borough Councils Neighbourhoods team.”

Local businesses came together to support the event and donate prizes included the Flower Rooms, Delgados, Nick Flack, Ferry Tavern, Friends Lane Riding school, Arnold Flooring, The Hayloft, Usborne Books, the CO-OP, Urban Beauty, Molly Blooms, Crown and Cushion, Banners and Signs, Tesco, Ashtons estate Agents and Essential Lawn Care.

It is hoped that next year’s Penketh Scarecrow Festival will be even bigger and better than this year.
