Lymm runner helps bring home silver medal for Great Britain

WARRINGTON Athletics Club runner Steve Watmough, from Lymm, represented Great Britain in two events at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga recently, helping bring home a silver medal.

Steve competed in the 5000 metres for over 55’s at the Carranque Sports Centre in Malaga, where he finished in an excellent 8th place in a high class race recording a time of 17 minutes 01.40 seconds.

Then Steve finished in a fabulous 6th place in the over 55’s Half Marathon recording a time of 1 hour 19 minutes 12 seconds to lead the British team to the Silver Medals behind the Spanish team.

The team was Steve along with Nick Martin (Mile High/South West Masters) 21st in 1 hour 25 minutes 18 seconds and Mark Halls (Brighton & Hove/South East Masters) 23rd in 1 hour 25 minutes 58 seconds for a total time of 4 hours 10 minutes 28 seconds to Spain’s 3 hours 53 minutes 51 seconds with Ireland taking the Bronze Medals with 4 hours 29 minutes 29 seconds.
