WARRINGTON will be alive with colour, flying flags and beating drums this weekend as the borough’s heroic military freemen parade through the town centre.

The 75 Engineers Regiment will exercise their right as freemen of Warrington to march through the heart of the town on Saturday, 22 September 2018.

The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Karen Mundry, said: “The men and women of the 75th Engineers Regiment have long had a close association with Warrington. We were delighted to bestow upon them our highest honour by granting them the freedom of the borough in 2013.

“We are very proud of the regiment and this is a fantastic opportunity to thank them for the work they do. I’d urge everyone to come along, show their support and see this magnificent regiment in all its glory.”

The event gets underway at 11.30am when the Commanding Officer will ask permission from the Mayor for the regiment to exercise their right as Freemen of the Borough to march through the streets with flags flying and drums beating.

Members of the public and local businesses are being encouraged to help honour the troops by lining the route. The Nottinghamshire Band of The Royal Engineers will lead the regiment from the Town Hall, around the town centre and then back to the Town Hall. Upon return, the Mayor will take the salute and inspect the parade.
