THE Conservatives have named their candidate for the Warrington Borough Council by-election for the Penketh and Cuerdle by election to be held on October 11.
Phil Hayward is an experienced councillor who is an active volunteer in the community following a career in the nuclear industry and with the Ministry of Defence.
Currently he acts as a “Game Changer” with the Warrington Wolves Foundation, volunteers in the community helping at several care homes and also on the dementia ward at Warrington Hospital. He is also a Diabetes UK “Voice” promoting better outcomes and treatment for people living with diabetes in the UK.
He said: “The Labour Administration in Warrington face challenges on many issues at present; these include their Local Plan, their decision and funding for the Western Link proposal and the town centre developments.
“These developments are having a direct impact on our community, using public funds – our money – and have the potential to prioritise spending where it is not most needed. Penketh and # Cuerdely is a great place to live but more can be done.”
“Labour now has a stranglehold on our town; their decisions and motives need to be scrutinised and they ultimately need to be held to account – this is my intention.
“ I will not just be another ‘Yes Man’ to the local Momentum / Labour Group and my experience will enable me to create pressure where it is needed and the action residents request.”
Mr Hayward will also be standing for Penketh Parish Council alongside Lawrence Worswick, a recent graduate, who has moved back to the area to commence his career in the North West.
Paul Campbell, chairman of Warrington Conservatives stated: “We have two outstanding candidates in Phil & Lawrence and a chance for Penketh and Cuerdley to have strong representation on their local priorities”.
