Grappers’ premier division survival goes to the wire

THE weather stepped in to have an impact on Grappenhall’ s chances of premier division survival – and didn’t do the Broad Lane club any favours.
With every game in the Vivio Cheshire County League washed out, Grappers are left with just one game to wipe out the 13 point gap between them and third-from-bottom Bramhall.
Grappers need to get a full 25-point victory at Marple on Saturday and hope that Bramhall pick up less than 12 points in their final game at home to Chester Boughton Hall
In Grappers’ favour is the fact that Marple have lost their last four games while Chester Boughton Hall, second in the league, have won three of their last four games.
The rain wiped out Warrington’s slim chance of promotion from division two.
Every game involving teams from the Warrington area was washed out and that has left Appleton in suspense despite their late challenge for promotion from the UKFast Cheshire League division three.
They are six points adrift of second placed Langley – which means that they need a full 25-point win from their last game and rely on Langley picking up less than 19 points from their game.
Appleton – with three wins and a draw from their last four games – travel to Cholmondeley who have had only one win from their last four games.
Lymm Oughtrington Park’s first division status, which looked in doubt a few weeks ago – is now secure.

Grappenhall 3rd managed to play on Sunday, but missing a few regular players went down by seven wickets at Marple in their last game of the season.
Grappers posted 149 all out in 33 overs, Ben Bravington top scoring with 40. Marple chased down the total with three wickets down with time to spare.
Grappenhall junior teams were also in action on Sunday.
The Under 18s lost in the Cheshire Cup final for the second year runnings, losing by seven runs to Northop Hall.
But the Under 11s beat Oakmere in the North Cheshire Cup final in the final over after setting a target of 103.
