Local runners take on international stars in 10k race

SIX Warrington Athletics Club runners took part in the Trafford 10km Road Race – up against many elite runners.
These includied GB international Mark Scott who won the race in 28 minutes and 57 seconds and Olympic 5000m sixth placer Andrew Butchart, who finished second on his comeback after breaking a bone in his foot early this year.
Nick Jones was the first from the Warrington AC squad to finish in 28th place overall in a fabulous new V40 personal best time of 31 minutes 55 seconds to place third in the over 40 age group, with his fastest time in seven years, moving him to fifth in the UK V40 rankings.
Next to finish was Jack Green in 83rd place with a time of 34 minutes 44 seconds.
Steve Watmough was next to finish, in 84th place just one second behind Jack Green, in a superb personal best time of 34 minutes 45 seconds to win the over 55 age group and move to the top of the V55 UK rankings.
Tom Greaves was next to finish in 99th place with a time of 35 minutes 18 seconds.
Dave Gill added to his medal tally with 175th place in 38 minutes 34 seconds to win the over 60 age group.
Dave Norman completed the club contingent in 215th place with a time of 39 minutes 48 seconds to place eighth in the over 55 age group.
