EMOTIONS ran high on Saturday morning as Appleton Cricket Club paid tribute to its U19 captain John Nesbitt, whose shock death at the age of just 18 has stunned the local cricketing world.
All four men’s teams gathered at the Lyons Lane ground before their matches, alongside supporters and representatives from other local clubs including Warrington and Grappenhall.
The club wishes to thank all those who have sent their condolences and good wishes over the past few days.
John had been due to play for the 2nd XI on Saturday and in a gesture of sportsmanship, their opponents, Barnton agreed they would also play with 10 men.
In a game charged with emotions, Appleton won by five wickets with four overs to spare.
John Nesbitt was considered one of the up-and-coming young players at Appleton and earlier this season played a fine innings of 74.
