Local Slimmers Walk All Over Cancer

A special “Walk All Over Cancer” event at Grappenhall helped raise funds in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Grappenhall resident and Slimming World consultant for Grappenhall and Lymm, Nicola Chiappa was “overwhelmed ” by the turnout for the sponsored charity walk she had arranged for some of her slimming club members.

Hoping for around 50 participants, over 80 volunteers from all of Nicola’s slimming groups turned up to enjoy a 5KM walk through the village of Grappenhall.

Departing from the Bellhouse Club, fine dry weather provided perfect conditions for the walkers, many of whom took the chance to exercise their pet dogs too.

Nicola said: “It was a perfect opportunity for members to meet some of the other slimmers who are improving their health and getting more active by losing weight. There was also a shorter route available – the important thing was being able to take part. After the walk members were presented with their awards and the grand total raised on the day was announced.”

On the day over £900 was raised and with further donations still coming in Nicola hopes that the group can top the £1000 mark.

The event was hosted to raise money for Cancer Research UK and to help raise awareness of how keeping a healthy weight reduces the risk of developing cancer. The members taking part have been working towards “Body Magic” awards and their donations, as well as that of their family and friends collected on the day will go to help make life a little easier for someone.
