Suspected arson attack on Warrington gym

POLICE are investigating a suspected arson attack following a fire at a gym on Bewsey Road, Warrington, during the early hours of today (Sunday).

Fire crews from Lymm, Penketh and Warrington attended at the scene of the blaze at 00:26.

The fire was contained to the first floor and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to put out the fire.

Crews then dampened down the affected area and checked for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera. Firefighters were in attendance for four hours and 30 minutes.

The fire is believed at this stage to have been caused deliberately.
