EIGHT young athletes from Warrington Athletic Club travelled to Liverpool for the Northern Athletics U13, U15 and U17 Championships – and two brought home Gold Medals.
Training partners Jordan Jones and Joe Buckley – trained by Philip Hicken – both won golds.
Ashley Nemits brought home a bronze medal.
Jordan’s gold was in the U17 1500m Steeplechase race, leading from gun to tape, recording a time of four minutes 44.04 seconds.
Joe won gold in the U17 3000m race with a time of nine minutes 12.07 seconds.
U15 Ashley Nemits, from Appleton, stepped up into the U17 age group to run in the 200m, and after finishing third in her heat in 25.93 seconds
She set a new personal best time of 25.35 seconds to take bronze in the final, just missing the club record of 25.30 seconds set by K Sykes in 1974.
In the 100m for U15 Boys, Jadon Allen won his heat in 12.14 seconds into a 3.4 metres per second wind, and then finished 4th in the final in 12.33 seconds this time into a strong 5.0 metres per second wind!
In the U17 200m race, Cameron Duff was second in his heat in 24.32 seconds into 4.3 metres per second wind, and in the final he finished in fourth place in 24.16 seconds into a strong 4.7 metres per second wind!!
U13 Shauna Clarke finished fourth in her 200m heat with a fantastic new personal best of 29.24 seconds, to qualify for the final. Then Shauna finished in a fab 8th place in the 200m final in 30.08 seconds.
U13 Amelia Smithers ran in the 800 metres, finishing in eighth place in her race in two minutes 43.13 seconds. The U13 800 metres event was run as three time trials because the rules do not allow athletes under 15 to compete in two races over 800 metres on the same day.
Meg Corker ran in the U15 Girls 75 metres hurdles but was hindered by a slight injury and running into a 4.9 m/p/s wind she struggled and just jogged from the third hurdle after having pulled up to finish sixth in the heat in 14.28 seconds.
