VOLUNTEER Navneet Jha has created a film highlighting the benefits of Warrington’s “Befriending Service” provided by the borough council’s Neighbourhoods team.
The Befriending Service aims to reduce social isolation and provides companionship to those who may feel lonely.
Navneet, who has lived in Warrington since 2010, with close to 20 years’ experience in the Digital world, was keen to contribute within his community after deciding to take a career-break last year.
Seeking volunteering opportunities, Navneet discovered the Befriending service and was impressed by its potential to have significant positive impact on the community.
Aware of the power of digital storytelling to get across the message, he volunteered to make a film on the Befriending Service, that would showcase the exemplary service provided by Warrington Borough Council.
With excellent support from Anne Livings, Volunteer coordinator of WBC, Navneet made the film.
Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid and Cllr Tony Higgins, Executive Board Member, Neighbourhoods and Communities, Warrington, have supported the film with resounding endorsement on the value and benefit of the Befriending service to the
overall community. The film also unearthed the story of Ellen, a few days shy of her 100th Birthday, whose positive outlook towards life and determination to smile against all odds is inspirational!
Navneet said: “The theme of the film – ageing, loneliness, associated vulnerabilities, wellbeing and the satisfaction gained in the process of giving, resonated with the audience.
“The preview of the film released on social media received very positive feedback within days of release.
He added: “It is hoped that the film will help in creating an awareness on the necessity to beat loneliness and inspire people to contribute in their own way to strengthen the community!”
