Affordable homes plan thrown out

A HOUSING association scheme to build a three-storey block of affordable homes has been thrown out by Warrington planning chiefs.
The scheme, put forward by Torus, involved a former garage site off Longshaw Street, Dallam.
Planning officers had recommended the scheme for six apartments be approved, but members of the borough’s development management committee decided the long access road leading to the site was too narrow.
Two vehicles would not have been able to pass and there was no room for a footpath.
The committee was told the site was within two minutes’ walk of the Dallam local centre where there was a convenience store and a pharmacy.
No objections had been received from neighbours but the committee was told the highways department was concerned about road safety because the geometry of the access made the site unsuitable for two-way traffic.
Officers recommended the scheme be approved and said it would unlikely the site would become congested.
But the committee rejected the scheme.
