Warrington Town to kick-off 2018/19 season at home

0

WARRINGTON Town will open up the new football season with a home game against Farsley Celtic on Saturday August 18.

The Yellows enjoyed an exciting campaign last term, including a memorable run in the FA Trophy, eventually finishing third in the league and bowing out in the play-offs against Grantham Town.

The challenge of promotion is an even bigger one this year, with a further promotion play-off required against a team from the same level at the central, southern or south eastern leagues, to secure elevation to National League North if they are able to win the play-offs in the Evo-Stik Premier League. The champions will still be automatically promoted as per previous seasons.

Newly promoted sides Hyde, Scarborough and South Shields are likely to put up stern tests, while Grantham and Farsley will be looking to go one step further having fell in the play-offs last season.

Warrington will once again travel to Witton Albion on Boxing Day, hosting the return fixture on Easter Monday.

Their first away game of the new season, like last year, is a Tuesday night trip to Lancaster City.

Manager Paul Carden has been quietly building his squad for the new campaign, adding the likes of seasoned campaigner Richard Brodie, talented playmaker Lewis Nightingale and defender Alex Honeyball.

Captain James McCarten leads the list of retained players, which also includes exciting young talent Dylan Vassallo.

The Yellows kick-off their pre-season friendlies this Saturday with a trip to North West Counties side Wythenshawe Town.
