Fire crews tackle blazing straw at farm

FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze involving a large amount of straw at a farm in Warrington.
The blaze is in the open at a farm in Tan House Lane, Burtonwood and crews from Penketh Fire Station are tackling it with two hose reel jets and also using a mechanical digger.
The fire was reported at just after 2.30pm and on arrival firefighters discovered a large amount of straw smoking.
A Fire Service spokesperson said: “Slow progress is being made with the fire. Crews have set up a water shuttle from a nearby hydrant to get enough water to the area.”
Crews expect to be at the scene for another hour.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Lymm and Northwich are tackle a blaze in a cornfield off Pole Lane, Antrobus.
The blaze involves an area of about 40 sq metres and three hose reel jets and beaters are being used.
The area is now being damped down to prevent fresh outbreaks.
