Canal jetty blaze is blamed on arsonists

A SERIOUS fire involving a jetty on the Manchester Ship Canal near Warrington is being blamed on arsonists.
The outbreak was this afternoon near Moore Nature Reserve, in Moore Lane, Moore.
Fire engines from Warrington and Runcorn were sent to the scene and used a main jet to tackle the flames from the bankside.
Subsequently a barge arrived and firefighters were able to use this to fight the blaze from the water side.
Lifejackets were available at the scene for crews’ safety.
Firefighters damped down three jetties to prevent re-ignition and also damped down the canal bank. They were at the scene for more than three hours.
The fire is believed to have been started deliberately. Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
A number of fires involves jetties in the Moore area have occurred in the last few days.
