LATCHFORD Albion’s Alliance side secured a second consecutive victory with a 26-14 win at Thatto Heath Crusaders.
The result meant Latchford climbed away from the lower reaches of division five.
In a game where the lead was changing hands on a regular basis, a two try burst late in the second half, secured the victory for Albion.
The hosts were quick out of the blocks and took the lead with a converted try in the opening exchanges.
Albion’s response came through prop forward Chris Brown, who took a reverse pass and found a chink in the Thatto defence to barge his way over the line.
On the 30 minute mark, Albion took the lead for the first time in the game, when the ball was moved along the line at pace, allowing Carwyn Chamberlain the space to cross out wide.
With the first half coming to a close, Thatto scored a well worked try to edge them back 10-8 front at the break.
It was Albion who started the second half strongly and they regained the lead. Chris Griffiths, marking his return to the club with a try, when he dummied his way over from close range, Jack Phillips converting.
Again the hosts would not lie down and a converted try, on the hour mark, saw them take the lead 16 – 14 and the game was finely in the balance.
The visitors then took control of the game with two quick-fire tries.
Firstly wing Jake Ashton scored a trademark try, going on an elusive mazy run to the try-line.
Two minutes later, Luke Hickman, making only his second appearance of the season, linked into the line and outpaced the home defence to race under the posts, Phillips converting to give Albion a cushion for the first time in the game, which they held onto to seal a great victory.
Both side played their part in a fantastic game of rugby in very challenging conditions.
