PLANS for a new state-of-the-art warehouse facility for Warrington based Eddie Stobart Logistics has been lodged with the town’s planners – and if approved would create more than 700 new jobs and a £75m investment in the town.

If  the application by developer Liberty Properties for land at Appleton is approved by the Council’s planning committee, the 630,000ft2 building will create around 480 permanent jobs on site and support another 250 off site.

Phillip Morris of Liberty Properties said, “This is one of the largest projects we have taken on in the North West, and certainly one of the most important. At a time when warehousing jobs are disappearing from the area, securing planning permission would allow Eddie Stobart Logistics create hundreds of them.

“The whole Liberty Properties team has worked with senior Council officers to ensure the development will be a positive addition for the residents of Warrington, future employees and the North West region. This facility, when completed, will add £18 million per year to the Warrington economy.”

Alex Laffey from Eddie Stobart Logistics added, “We moved our headquarters to Warrington in 2014 and have invested heavily in our facilities, adding a training academy in 2016. This development would make a significant contribution to achieving our strategic growth objectives and supports our commitment to Warrington and to the Northern Powerhouse project.”

“I am sure the people of Warrington and Warrington Borough Council will agree that this is great news for the borough and will support our planning application, and the creation of hundreds of jobs.”

  1. If these are the ’employment opportunities’ on offer, then the new housing developments proposed for Appleton’s nearby green fields need to include in excess of 750 social rented homes.

  2. Are we to believe Eddie Stobart’s statement on the number of jobs to be created with their proposed planning application.
They are making the promise of alleged 750 jobs to encourage the Borough Council in the hope Stobart’s get the planning application through don’t be fooled by this rash statement.
