Green field homes scheme comes back before planners

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build houses on a green field site at Appleton Thorn comes back before Warrington Borough Council planners tomorrow.

The scheme was rejected some time ago and then deferred last month to allow time for a “compromise” between objectors and builders Bloor Homes.

Tomorrow members of the development control committee will consider the extent of the compromise – a reduction in the number of houses from 74 to 71.

The development, off Stretton Road, would consist of terraced, semi detached and detached houses, varying from two to four bedrooms and including 22 “affordable” homes. All would be of one or two storeys.

The reduced number of properties will enable more green space to be provided along the Stretton Road frontage, the committee will be told.

More than 150 local residents and Appleton Parish Council opposed the original scheme.

But 14 letters of support for the project have also been received.

It is more than four years since the scheme was first put forward – when the number of properties was put at 80-90 homes.
