As a family business which stemmed from the sale of roses from the front garden of a house at Glazebury, Bents Garden and Home is joining a national rose celebration.

The family business, started by Alfred Bent, is joining the National Rose Festival, taking place at Centres across the UK from 23rd June – 1st July.

The festival, which has been launched by celebrity gardener, Peter Seabrook has featured in the National press and gardening magazines. It aims to be a celebration of all things rose related, centred round a competition to find Britain’s Prettiest Rose with the opportunity to win £1000.

Customers are invited to bring in just one stem from their prettiest rose plant (in a small bottle of water) on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June and the prettiest of pretty blooms will be chosen at Bents with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The winning rose will photographed and entered into the national competition to be announced on 30th June.

Prizes in store will include Bents gift vouchers worth £40 (1st), £30 (2nd) and £20 (3rd) with the possibility of winning £1000 as first prize in the national judging.

Matthew Bent, Managing Director at Bents Garden & Home said: “We jumped at the chance to be involved in this festival as it celebrates a flower that has deep roots with our family business. It all began with my grandparents growing and selling roses from their front garden and last year we celebrated our 80th anniversary with an image of this beautiful flower taking centre stage. We hope people will get involved with the competition and keeping our fingers crossed there might even be a national winner amongst us.”

Roses will be a predominant feature at Bents throughout the festival with floral displays throughout the centre promoting the varied nature of this versatile plant such as roses for fragrance, for structure and for the indoors. The Fresh Approach Restaurant will be also celebrating the occasion with a special rose cake available throughout the duration of the festival.
