Murder investigation after stabbing on Wilderspool Causeway

Police have launched a murder investigation after a stabbing incident on Wilderspool Causeway during the early hours of this morning.

Officers attended at an address on Wilderspool Causeway at 2.51am earlier today and found a 21 year-old man with serious injuries.

Ambulance attended the scene and the man was taken to Warrington General Hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

Detective Inspector Adam Waller, of Cheshire Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: “At this stage the incident appears to be isolated and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what took place.

“A 31 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and will be assisting officers with their investigation.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed what happened, saw anything suspicious or unusual,  or has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries, to contact us on 101.”

A formal identification of the man has not yet taken place.

Local officers remain in the area to provide reassurance to the community. Anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 95059.

Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile in other incidents over night a female was arrested at a bus stop in the Culcheth area for an alleged Possession of a Bladed Article.

At 2355 hours a male was arrested on Winwick Road for an allegation of Criminal Damage from earlier that day.

At 0133 hours a female was arrested in the Poplars & Hulme area for an alleged Domestic Assault.

At 0138 hours a male was arrested in the town centre area for an allegation of Sexual Touching a female.

At 0435 a male and female were arrested for two alleged assaults following an incident in the Birchwood area.

All were held in custody.
