STAFF, residents and volunteers from Warrington Housing Association were joined by members of the public to raise dough in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

The organisation took part in the dementia charity’s annual Cupcake Day, Yesterday, Thursday, raising more than £140 after selling over 280 cupcakes at their sheltered accommodation schemes across the borough and at their LifeTime Centre, based at The Gateway, Sankey Street – which provides activities for people aged 50 and over.

As well as making, buying, selling and eating cupcakes, the LifeTime centre held a cupcake decorating competition.

The best cupcake decorating awards went to; Chris Somerset, who was presented with a chocolate trophy.

Dementia is a disease of the brain and every three minutes someone is given a diagnosis, for which there is currently no cure. To date, Cupcake Day has raised £1.4million since 2016 to help people live well with dementia.

Andrea Rees, LifeTime Officer, who organised the event said: “We had an amazing day and we would like to give a big thank you to everyone involved. There were so many delicious cupcakes and the effort people made in decorating them were fantastic. With one in three of us developing dementia, it is vital that we support charities such as Alzheimer’s Society, and hope our efforts will go some way to helping people in Warrington to live well with dementia.”
