Golf girls win for Lymm

AN all-girls team from Lymm Golf Club triumphed in the Cheshire County Junior team championships held at Chester Golf Club.
The team, consisting of McKenzie Gourlay, Sophie Mullarkey and Freya Jackson scored a superb 82 points – 10 points clear of their nearest rivals – was the only girls team taking part, iin a field of 23 mixed junior and boys teams from across the county.
Sean Hammill of England Golf commented: “This is an amazing achievement and having an all-girls team playing, never mind winning, is truly a breakthrough for junior golf in Cheshire -personally I would say nationally also’”
Sophie Mullarkey won the prize for the best individual nett score with 42 points.
The girls’ win will see them represent Lymm Golf Club and Cheshire, when they travel to Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire for the national finals which will take place on August 16 -17.
