Warrington cricket season opens

THE cricket season gets underway today – with all teams in the Warrington area playing their opening fixture.

Grappenhall will be travelling to Bramhall hoping to make a good start to their drive to remain in the ECB premier division of the Cheshire County League.

Last year they managed to avoid relegation and ended up with a league position which rather belied how close they got to the drop. This summer, for the first time for some years, they will not be bolstered by an overseas player, deciding instead to employ a professional coach to try and bring on the home-grown talent.

Grappenhall 2nd will play the first match at Broad Lane, taking on Hyde but Grappenhall 3rd will not play their first game until April 29 when they travel to Nantwich.

In division two, Warrington will travel to Mobberley for their first game while the 2nd XI will host Stockport Georgians at Walton Lea.

IN the Cheshire League, division one, Lymm Oughtrington Park will entertain Congleton at Oughtrington Lane while the Lymm second string travel to Weaverham.

In division two, Stretton travel to Winnington Park.

Appleton will open their division three season at Old Parkonians while Glazebury travel to Bowdon Vale.

Other fixtures are: Appleton 2nd v Christleton; Stretton 2nd v Cholmondeley; Appleton 4th v Knutsford; Glazebury 2nd v Bowdon Vale; Kingsley v Warrington 3rd; Warrington 4th v Europa Exiles; Styal v Appleton 3rd.
