DETECTIVES at Warrington are continuing to question a 54-year-old man following the murder inquiry launched yesterday.
Police have been given extra time to question the man and hope to be able to reveal the identity of a 40-year-old woman who died shortly after being found injured at an address in St Elphin’s Close, Howley.
Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, of Cheshire Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: “We are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened. Enquiries are ongoing in the local area. These include house-to-house enquiries, CCTV enquiries and any forensic enquiries.”
At approximately 10.20pm on Tuesday police were called to an off-licence on Marsh House Lane following concerns for a man. This led officers to the address on St Elphins Close where the injured woman was found.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance but sadly died a short time later. The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Formal identification is expected to take place later today.
DI Tomlinson added: “An incident such as this will cause concern amongst the community. I would like to reassure local people that this is believed to be an isolated incident. Patrols have been increased in the area and local officers continue to provide reassurance to the community. They will remain in the area over the coming days and anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.”
