LOCAL primary and secondary school children showcased their sporting talents in the Warrington and Cheshire Winter School Games County Finals.

This year’s finals saw 11 sports competitions taking place between January and March at various venues across the county. The finest sporting talents competed in a series of sporting activities including Badminton, Basketball, Boccia, Football, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Rowing, Rugby, Sports Hall Athletics and Volleyball.

As well as encouraging young people to take part in sports competitions, this initiative also helps to promote physical activity and encourages young people to get active in a fun way.

The smooth running of each event was made possible by more than 150 Young Leader volunteers who ensures the Games is truly delivered on its motto of “for young people, by young people”.

The event was delivered by Active Cheshire, in partnership with Cheshire and Warrington School Sport Alliance.
Active Cheshire chief executive Anne Boyd said: “It’s been a massive privilege to see so many children showcasing their sporting talents at this year Cheshire and Warrington School Games Finals. Congratulations to all the winning schools and well done to everyone who took part.

“Seeing children enjoying sport and activity in enjoyable and supportive environments embodies what Active Cheshire is about and we hope the experiences will contribute towards them leading active habits for life.
“I would like to offer my sincere thanks Cheshire and Warrington School Sport Alliance who valuable partnership supported us to bring the Games to life”.
