High Legh Tennis Club are double county champions

HIGH Legh Tennis Club enjoyed unprecedented success in this year’s Cheshire Team Tennis Winter Championships.

The Under 8, Under 9 and Under 10 teams all reached their respective finals – and the Under 10 and Under 9 teams ended up champions.

The Under 10 team were up first against a very strong David Lloyd Cheshire Oaks Team,. It was a fantastic match which saw the High Legh Team victorious with an 8 – 4 scoreline.

Next up saw High Legh Under 8  at David Lloyd Cheadle. The match was watched by a large crowd from clubs all over Cheshire and the youngsters from both teams battled it out to finish the match tied on 16 rubbers each. Unfortunately  High Legh just lost out on the tie-breaker.

HLTC Under 8  – Leon Moreton, Oliver Dobson, Charlie Warburton, Marco Kirkos and Skye Thomas

High Legh Under 9 team, again faced the might of a David Lloyd tennis centre, this time the Manchester North Branch.  The team played a great game of tennis and played in fantastic spirit, which saw the them crowned champions with a 14 – 6 victory.

HLTC Under 9  with head coach  Emma Silcock, and coach Nick Gore.  Susanna Thompson, Mickey Smutney, Marco Greig, Nathan Warner and Arthur Gething.

This success was a rewarding achievement not only for the players but also for their coaching team, led by head of tennis Emma Silcock.

She  said: “It is such an unbelievable achievement to make all three age group finals and even more outstanding to win two of them against David Lloyd Tennis Centres. ‘’

‘’What an amazingly talented and committed bunch of juniors we have at High Legh, and this is just the start, as we have so many up and coming young players showing promise. I am so proud of how all our juniors have performed in the county finals – they played with great team spirit, always encouraging each other, and they are getting better and better all the time.

“High Legh is a small club with big ambition, which they proved by triumphing over many large, established clubs on their road to victory.
