TWO lanes of the M6 southbound, near Warrington, were closed this morning after a four vehicle pile-up.

Fire crews from Birchwood, Lymm and Greater Manchester were called to the scene between junctions 21A and 21.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crash involved two cars and two heavy lorries.

Paramedics were at the scene and a woman casualty was taken to hospital.

Diesel fuel was leaking from one of the the lorries and fire crews had to bring in special equipment to clear it. Firefighters were at the scene for three hours before the motorway was reopened at around 13.30.
