ENGLAND Test cricketer Liam Plunkett will be visiting Appleton Cricket Club on Sunday, March 25 when the club celebrates being one of only three “Showcase Clubs” in the country.
NatWest Cricket Force day will give the club a major boost for the start of the new season – and the presence of the Yorkshire and England fast bowler will be a major draw for cricket fans.
The ECB (English Cricket Board), NatWest and Jewsons are all providing lots of resources on the day.
Appleton captain Alex Wright said: “It looks like it is going to be a terrific day for the club.
“There are only three clubs in the country that have been selected for NatWest Cricket Force this year so it’s a real honour for our club.
“We met with the ECB recently and their reasons for selecting Appleton are because ‘it’s a club going in the right direction, engaging lots of people from within the community and a terrific ethos.’”.
Appleton fields four teams in the Cheshire Cricket League and also the highly successful Appleton women’s team which is one of the leading sides in the Cheshire Women’s League.
The club plays at Lyons Lane, Appleton – a ground that has developed tremendously in recent years – and also at The Grange in Latchford and at Bridgewater High School.
