A HEARTLESS sneak thief who caused misery for a number of elderly women in Warrington, has been tracked down thanks to CCTV cameras.
She was responsible for a number of “purse dipping” offences in the town centre in July last year.
Each the victim was an elderly woman losing their purse and a quantity of cash.
A police spokesperson said: “Naturally they were left very distressed by this.
“CCTV stills were obtained and attempts made to identify the offence. A member of ‘Chester Against Business Crime’ saw the stills and passed officers the name of a possible offender, Karen Edgar, aged 49.
“Officers from Warrington interviewed Edgar at Styal Prison where she was serving a prison sentence for similar offences on Merseyside and she was subsequently summonsed, despite answering ‘no comment’ to all questions and CCTV footage.”
Now the woman has appeared before magistrates again charged with two offences of theft from the person.
She was given two, six-month custodial sentences, to run consecutively – greatly increasing her original sentence.
