Cold weather payments triggered

MP Helen Jones has urged those who qualify to ensure that they receive their Cold Weather Payments.

Any person who qualifies for the payment should receive it automatically. If you qualify but haven’t received your payment please tell your Pension Centre or Jobcentre Plus office.

MP Jones said:

“Cold Weather Payments have been triggered for the following  postcodes in my constituency: WA1, WA12, WA2, WA3, WA5, WA9.

“The alert was triggered today for the period from February 23 to March 1 and £25 should be paid to eligible residents within those postcodes.

“Those eligible should make sure that they receive the payment which will help to ensure they keep warm during this very cold period. “

  1. In other news Helen would like to remind her constituents to remember to keep breathing at all times, that today is a Saturday, that British summertime is fast approaching and that the moon is not actually made of cream cheese. Keep your eyes peeled next week when Helen will be pictured sat next to a clock, smiling and pointing at it, to remind constituents that they will be getting an hour less in bed.

  2. Your comment above made me giggle BILLYWIRES…but in all fairness if I hadn’t seen this story I would have had no idea that people could get this little extra ‘Cold Weather Payment’.
I was about to have a whinge asking why only those postcodes though but having just read more about it on the governments website the postcodes mentioned above are not the only ones in our Warrington area where people will also be eligible. WA4 is another (there may be more too) people can check by entering their postcode here…..

  3. Just reading a bit more and presumed the extra also was given to the vunerable elderly but seems people (of any age) have to be on jobseekers/income support/universal credit etc to actually get the auto payment. I guess not many vunerable elderly are claiming such benefits though so they probably wont get the extra little £’s help.

Is there any extra help or services available for those living and sleeping rough on the streets at times like this too…just wondering as it must be awful 🙁

  4. Thanks Dizzy I informative as always maybe you’ve missed you true vocation – Gary should give you a pay rise at the end of the week. And yes the weather is raw just getting in and out of the WVIP mini bus on Thursday when collecting members was cold enough as for sleeping out rough really bad.
