Yellows avoid two games in two days as Grantham game called off

WARRINGTON Town’s league game at Grantham Town tonight, Tuesday, has been called off due to a frozen pitch.

It had promised to be an intriguing clash at South Kesteven Sports Stadium, with Grantham occupying one of the play-off places behind the second placed Yellows.

Attention will now turn to Warrington’s next game, at home to Nantwich Town on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on Monday night, a virtually unrecognisable Yellows side was knocked out of the Cheshire Senior Cup by Winsford United.

It will have been a relief just to have got the game played, having been postponed and re-arranged no fewer than six times for a variety of reasons since before Christmas.

Only Dylan Vassallo from the first team squad featured, though reserve goalkeeper Ben Ascroft did start between the posts and was given the captain’s armband.

Goals from Jamie McLellan, Perry Bircumshaw and Mike Koral set up a tie for Winsford away at Altrincham in the next round.

Warrington Town: Ascroft, Campbell, Cunningham, Banks, Shield, Noonan, Mulholland, Vassallo, Daniels, Tyrer, Davis. Subs: Summers, McColl, McGrath, Speare.

Winsford United: Green, Fowles, L Duckworth, Hopper, McLellan, Foster, Purcell, Rothwell, McLaughlin, Koral, Bircumshaw. Subs: Gardener, Taylor, Skaorzynski, Taylor, J Duckworth.
