THE regularly monthly collection for Warrington Foodbank, held outside Sainsbury’s in Lymm village centre, got a welcome boost when the stall was set up.
New store manager Diane Rickman arrived with the store’s own contribution to the bags of food and other essentials which help those in most dire need in the Warrington area.
She said: “I was very pleased we were able to do our bit to support this valuable community effort.”
Foodbank founder member Su Williams said: “We are also looking forward to inviting Diane along to visit our monthly Senior Social at the Community Centre.
“The store has already donated 1,000 teabags in the last couple of weeks which will keep us ‘afloat’ for months to come.”
The collection is run by a team from Lymm Labour party but all are welcome to help and contribute. The Lymm group alone have donated over five tonnes of food, pet food and toiletries since they were established over three years ago.
Trish Cockayne, one of the Lymm group who also volunteers at the Trussell Trust distribution centre in Warrington said: “It is a sad state of affairs that these foodbanks are needed but heartening at least that so many places around Warrington recognise the need and contribute so generously.”
